This spring, economist and investigator David Sundén published an ESO report (ESO stands for Expert Group for Studies in Public Economics), an independent committee under the Ministry of Finance. The report Sin and Tax is about alcohol, tobacco and gambling. When David meets David, many myths are debunked. Among them is the most cherished one - that the alcohol monopoly ensures that we Swedes stay reasonably sober. In addition, Sundén notes that smokers probably contribute heavily to the public purse and snus users are probably taxed far too heavily.
