How to make the EU competitive, with MEP Andrea Wechsler

MEP Dr. Andrea Wechsler and EPHI's Adam Schlüssler tackle the big question: can free markets and the European Green Deal actually work together?

On the phase‑out of the internal combustion engine, Dr. Wechsler delivered a blunt assessment: the decision to move away from the combustion engine was, in her view, a clear mistake. The conversation highlighted risks that overly prescriptive timelines can create social and industrial disruption and stressed that clear market signals should be paired with realistic transition measures and more room for Innovation. According to Wechsler, the Northvolt collapse served as a lesson in industrial policy.

The discussion concludes with a practical roadmap for how Europe can build a more competitive, market-driven, and climate-ready industry.
